World Famous VIP Records in Long Beach struggles to stay relevant: The record store, key to the birth of West Coast rap, retools amid technological changes in music.

Now owned by Kelvin Anderson, VIP in Long Beach midwifed the careers of some of America’s best-known hip-hop stars. Rapper Snoop Dogg filmed parts of three videos on the VIP roof, next to its landmark sign, which featured the cartoon image of a black man in a baseball cap walking toward an enormous vinyl record.
But that was years ago. Anderson’s siblings have long since closed their stores. Today, in the age of Internet downloads, Anderson remains in music — barely.

4 Big Trends for February, According to NY Tech Meetup’s Jessica Lawrence

nasdaq:

In her role as Managing Director of New York Tech Meetup, Jessica Lawrence has a unique perspective on what’s bubbling up from the city’s startup community. She’s blogging her insights for us every month. So what should attendees at tomorrow’s meetup expect to see? Jessica’s five big predictions for 2012 are holding true — and growing more nuanced. One major development: Simplicity.

Even as more learn to code, businesses are making it easier to do without the skills.

We have a demo coming up on Wednesday from a company called Scroll Kit. They’re helping people who aren’t developers create and manage the design of websites using an incredibly simple interface. That means dragging and dropping headers, images and text into place instead of having to input complicated lines of code. That’s something we’re seeing more and more — even as more people are learning how to code, companies are developing ways to make it easy for people who don’t know how to code to build websites.

Short Hiatus | Most Recent Picture

Sorry for the recent, yet brief hiatus (I was slacking, I know). I quickly wanted to explain why I posted another picture of myself, which is something I said I wasn’t going to do. It was my FIRST “red carpet” experience. That moment meant/means/will always mean a lot to me.

The picture is with two of the best people I know in the music business (two people that have truly looked out for me at my young age) AND the legendary Hip-Hop/R&B/Soul producer Jimmy Jam.

God Bless!
